Our Affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International

Hospital Punta Pacífica entered into an affiliation agreement with Johns Hopkins Medicine International in 2001. Under this agreement, the experts of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore provide educational and consulting support to the clinical and administrative staff of Hospital Punta Pacífica in their quest to provide the best care for their patients. Hospital Punta Pacífica is the only health care facility in Central America affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International.

In the period leading up to Hospital Punta Pacífica's 2006 opening, Johns Hopkins experts contributed to:

  • Hospital infection control policies
  • Best practices and operating room efficiency
  • Architectural design review (for patient safety, infection control, efficiency and clinical flow)
  • Evaluation and selection of imaging equipment
  • Training and education of staff
  • Observerships for director of nursing, director of finance, director of IT services and chief medical officer

Under the continued affiliation agreement, Johns Hopkins Medicine International:

  • Appointed a Hopkins faculty member as medical director who makes intermittent visits to the hospital to advise on how to improve quality and patient safety
  • Holds specialty-based clinical lectures, seminars and training for physicians
  • Holds lectures, seminars and training for administrative staff
  • Meets regularly with leadership to monitor medical and administrative performance
