At the Emergency Room we are ready to respond to any medical necessity, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to take care of any eventuality that you may have if a medical emergency occurs. The Emergency department of Punta Pacifica Hospital is one of the sections of this hospital that meets the specifications required for the Triage System used in the best hospitals around the world.
What is the Triage system? The Triage is a rapid filtering system, where the patient is assisted based on the seriousness of his condition in the shortest possible time to establish its symptoms and take immediate actions to preserve its life. Once the patient is stable, an experienced nurse will take its data for input into the patient’s medical and admission records. Based on its condition, the patient may be sent to three different sections within the Emergency Area: Doctor’s office, Observation area or Critical patient area.
After the first interview in the Doctor’s office, the patient is taken to one of the three emergency offices: gynecology, adults’ office or pediatrics’ office.
Observation area: In this section, patients with some type of body lesion or urgent condition are sent immediately to the observation area, where the nurse fills the questionnaire with a wireless mobile unit. This information is sent electronically to Admission and to the patient’s records.
In the observation area the patient is monitored and tests ordered, whether they are X-rays or other pertinent tests. This department ensures that a diagnostic is made in less than four hours and that there is a plan to follow with the patient. It also has a prioritized and computerized connection with the X-Ray department, and hemodynamic laboratory, ensuring results in less than 30 minutes. Furthermore, it has two elevators, one for personnel, logistics of materials and family members, and the second exclusively for patients, totally aseptic and expeditious to the Operating Room that will take the less possible time in case of an emergency surgery.
Unstable (Critical) patient Triage A patient who is unconscious, has a bleeding injury, respiratory failure, cerebral trauma, myocardial infarction, stroke or any other life threatening condition is assisted in this area that has direct access to ambulances and three aseptic attending areas with positive pressure. It has capacity for up to 12 critical patients, in case of massive urgencies, during which the hospital activates a code that immediately alerts and locates the supporting staff.
Pediatric Emergencies Pediatrics emergencies and neonatal intensive care are assisted by the pediatric team at adequate installations. These doctors have the following certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLF) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
