Description the BSR (Business Social Responsibility) Program

Hospital Punta Pacifica “Surgeries Week”

For us, the issue of inequality in health is paramount, in view of the fact that the social security system does not have the infrastructure or technology to meet the existing needs.  Therefore, as a private hospital, modern and highly technological, we feel in solidarity and socially responsible with this situation. Through four consecutive years, we have shared our knowledge and ability with the Panamanian population that really require it, in order to make a positive change in society through our social responsibility program called "SEMANA DE LAS CIRUGIAS" (WEEK OF SURGERIES), by means of which, there have been made around 100 free surgeries to people suffering from diseases and deformities that prevented them from having a quality of life and affected their development in their social environment.

Thus, what they called from the beginning the Week of Surgeries, has become a private initiative from a group of Directors of the hospital and its affiliate John Hopkins Medicine International, gathered with the intention to help and support patients with limited resources.  Also, this program provides strategies and actions to substantially improve the quality of life of children and adults, since it has been nourished with contributions from various health providers, foundations, associations, medical personnel, nursing and administrative staff and citizens in general.

Supported in this mission, Hospital Punta Pacifica aims to have all the beneficiaries and families share the blessing and goodness of all donations, because they look to show solidarity with those who really need it.  With this program, the hospital wants to ensure more Panamanian families health, providing services with quality and warmth and giving them an efficient and timely health care.  Thus, from the beginning they have been performing general surgeries, reconstructive plastic surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, neurosurgeries, gynecological procedures, radiological procedures, among others.

Public that is impacted:
For three consecutive years, Hospital Punta Pacifica has made diagnostic and surgical procedures in children, young people and adults of scarce economical resources and a great need in health care, as part of its program of BSR, and conscious of the growing needs facing Panamanian children and youth.

Since 2007, year of the creation of the Week of Surgery, the Hospital Punta Pacifica is making real the work for the most destitute, dedicating each of his thoughts and actions in favor of health and human development of those who need it most.

Investment:
In these three years they have attended approximately 100 cases of medium complexity in sessions of surgery 7 days per year and diagnostic procedures, in which have been invested $ 560,000.00.

Achievements:
Through the Week of Surgeries program, the PPH have achieved the realization and development of attended patients, improving their quality of life of each and their development in society. Furthermore, has formally instituted a  program with annual sustainability, opposite to a sporadic and occasional process, where all years they made these surgeries and outpatient exams of different medical patients of scarce resources, achieving orthopedic surgeries, neurosurgeries, reconstructive surgeries, and all laboratories and radiological examinations necessary for the realization of each of these procedures.

The hospital has also helped in the realization of MRI and hemodynamic procedures to the patients chosen for the program for the Week of Surgeries. The program has enabled to address cases such as: secondary rinhoplasty due to cleft nose, congenital malformation of the ear, myelomeningocele, cleft palate, cleft lips, brain MRI , atrial malformation, polydactyl in both hands, keloid  scar on the upper lip, last stages of mastopexia surgeries, reconstructive surgeries due to burns, hemodynamic procedures, and photo-fulgurations of prostate, among others.

Commitment of the Company with Society

Following its human commitment beyond a doctor - patient relationship from a private view, Hospital Punta Pacifica decides to assume social global responsibility to extend human attention, with a foundation which will massify health care for the poor and needy.  Achieving in this way, the company compromise in trying to minimize the impact of poverty on health care, and improving the quality of life of the neediest citizen in the country.

Therefore, during the years and through” the week of surgery”, they have been participating with a social commitment and investing human and professional efforts.

In the same way, and now through the future foundation, they will have a formal entity with international extension, integrating their alliances with their affiliate John Hopkins International Medicine.
